John and Suzi Miller have been selected as the recipients of the Champion of UMaine Award. The award recognizes individuals who, though not UMaine graduates, have been strong and effective advocates for the University of Maine. John and Suzi’s proven commitment to the ongoing success of the University, especially their support for the Collins Center for the Arts, is a testament to their enduring commitment to UMaine’s success.
With many UMaine alums in the Miller family, John and Suzi have adopted the Black Bear spirit both within their professional lives as well as their volunteer and philanthropic endeavors. Suzi Miller spent a portion of her career working at the University under two Presidents and one Dean. Her familiarity with the institution has allowed her to stay involved as an informed volunteer, lending her time and expertise to the improvement of the President’s House and the Collins Center for the Arts Gala Planning Committee. John Miller has been a volunteer with the Collins Center for the Arts for a number of years, including serving on its advisory board since 2014. John is currently the Vice Chair of the Center’s Advisory Board.
The Miller Family received the CCA’s highest volunteer recognition, The Wilma Award, which recognizes and honors “… extraordinary commitment to the Collins Center for the Arts at the University of Maine.” The family’s support for the University has been loyal and wide-ranging, including the creation of the Miller’s Café at the Collins Center for the Arts and the establishment of endowed funds that provide support for the arts as well as support for UMaine students who transfer from Eastern Maine Community College.
