After a hugely successful 50th Reunion last September, there is a great deal of enthusiasm for another get-together. Plans are in the works for a 52-year mini-reunion in Portland next year.
I am pleased to share that Bob Kittredge and Carole Spruce have set up accommodations at two hotels for the party in Portland on August 2-5, 2018. Rooms can be booked now. When calling, mention University of Maine Class of ’66 Reunion. It is important to make your reservations early, as there is a road race that fills up rooms in the Portland area 9-10 months in advance.
#1 Holiday Inn by the Bay, downtown Portland, 88 Spring Street. Tel: 1-800-345-5050 or 207-775-2311. Rate: $210 + tax & $10 for parking. Available to book—ask for group reservations. The cut-off date is July 2, 2018. If you have questions ask for Kristyn Tillman.
#2 Fireside Inn, Portland (Westbrook) 81 Riverside Street. Tel: 877-774-4405 or 207-774-5601. Rate: $159 + tax. Ask for group reservations. The cut-off date is July 3, 2018. George Sanders is our contact at the hotel.
The agenda is totally wide open other than a potential pizza party at Pat’s in Yarmouth on August 2nd.
If you haven’t been to Portland for some time, you are in for a special treat. The “Old Port” area on the waterfront is filled with unique shopping, great pubs, and restaurants, all within walking distance.
Stevie Burnell Hillard ’67 and I spent a week in Maine vacationing at Bear Spring Camps in Belgrade in July and were fortunate to have a mini Lambda Chi Alpha reunion as well. We had breakfast with Vite Vitale, whom we had not seen in over 50 years. We met his wife, Linda Fowler Vitale ’68, ’92G with David Crook ’68 and his wife, Barbara. On our last night in Maine we had dinner with Carl “Chick” Croce ’69 and met his wife, Janet Packard Croce ’70. Amazing how the conversations picked up as if we had been together forever. By the way, Vite, Chick, and I are Bear Pairs (married to UMaine ladies).
John and Linda Talbot Eaton wrote, “We are so pleased that our son Paul is a graduate student in the English Department at UMaine, Orono. After 20 years in the California, he wanted Maine.”
That’s pretty much all from here. Hope you had a wonderful summer and we’ll see you in Portland in August!
