The Maine Basketball Hall of Fame of 2017 inducted 19 members, two of whom were from the Class of ’68. They included Terry Carr, who helped Stearns High School of Millinocket to the 1963 New England championship before going on to play at the U. of Maine, and Thomas F. Maines ’00G, who amassed 369 victories during a 30-year coaching career. Tom’s career included three consecutive championships during the late 1980s at Morse High School in Bath, ME.
Classmate Kathy McCain Dyer, of Houlton, has been named to the Board of the Catholic Charities of Maine. The Catholic Charities of Maine is celebrating their 50th year and Kathy has served more than three decades of volunteer and professional work in the field of Faith Formation.
As most of you know, in addition to being your class correspondent, I teach writing and am a freelance writer. My third book, and first novel, The Tellurians, was recently released, ISBN 978-1-365-69384-7. Here is a quote from the book: “Sure, she loved challenges. She had downloaded the application and applied for a position as an astronaut for the colonization of Mars program with the feeling that she had one chance in a million of being selected. The problem was that Kim-Lan had won that chance in a million.” The story begins at the Houlton Community Market, where I work every Saturday during the summer, May-October, and it includes information about Maine’s girl hero, Samantha Smith. I enjoyed doing research for the book, which took me a year and a half to write. Now I am working on a sequel. My books are available on Amazon and Lulu.com.
