Greetings from northern California.
Barry Hobbins has been named and confirmed unanimously as utility ratepayer advocate for the State of Maine. Barry was a legislator for 26 years, including two years as minority leader and has been in private law practice in Saco. Tom Schaeffer was honored by the governor for over 40 years of service to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife as a wildlife biologist.
Guy Piper, who has been an active member of the Monmouth, ME, Lions Club for 35 years, received the Milestone Chevron Award in October 2016. Guy currently serves as membership chairperson, speak-our chairperson, and in other ways as needed.
Steve and I had a lovely afternoon meeting with other Maine alums at the home of Juan and Evelyn Patterson Gonzalez ’87 in San Leandro, CA, as part of the Black Bear Road Trip. It was fun to hear from Alumni Office staff and John Diamond ’77, ’89G of the Alumni Association. Alums from the ’40s to 2015 and three incoming students enjoyed hospitality, whoopie pies, and a spirited “Maine Stein Song.”
We are also now the grandparents of two: our middle daughter and her husband in the UK welcomed a daughter, Rowan Rebecca, who joins big brother, August.
One last thing: 2018 is our Reunion year, and our class will gather in the fall on the University of Maine campus. Watch for details about the dates and activities, and please plan to come!
