It’s been a year filled with impressive honors for your ’82 classmates.
Have difficulty reading small print? Lorna Good Rittenburg and her husband and business partner, Jim Rittenburg ’76, ‘78G, ’81 Ph.D., have just the thing. Their company, IC Optix (www.icoptix.com) in Pennsylvania, develops innovative vision aids that truly are amazing. Their patented magnifier label technology places a flexible magnifier right on packaging, so you can read the fine print. They have also developed a flexible, scrolling magnifying film that rolls up into a ballpoint pen. Very ingenious.
Michael Duddy was named by Governor Paul LePage ’75G to serve as a district court judge. A lawyer with Kelly, Remmel & Zimmerman, Michael has been in private practice since 1993. A U.S. Navy veteran, he is also a licensed professional forester and in 2004 received the American Hiking Association’s Volunteer of the Year Award for his work on the Cape Elizabeth greenbelt system.
Tim Nightingale G was named by the governor to the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) board of directors. FAME is the State of Maine’s business and higher education finance agency, supporting the growth and expansion of business as well as financial support for Maine students. Tim is executive vice president and senior loan officer at Camden National Bank.
Artist Mark McCollough G, ’89 Ph.D. was featured recently in the Bangor Daily News highlighting his artwork focusing on endangered species, selected for Maine’s Endangered and Threatened Species poster, now in its third edition. His striking painting includes all 51 species currently listed as endangered and threatened by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. You can see or purchase the poster at the online store at www.maine.gov/ifw.
Also featured in the BDN was Jamie Russell, head coach for the Piscataquis Community High School basketball team. In his 32 years of coaching, his teams have racked up an impressive 340 victories. A noted historian of the game, Jamie authored two books detailing Maine’s high school basketball history beginning in 1961.
Charles Martin was inducted into the University of Maine Sports Hall of Fame. As a member of the UMaine swim team, he set records in the 200-, 500-, and 1,650-yard freestyle events that stood for up to 20 years.
