Happy fall, Class of 2004! Hope everyone had a wonderful summer. It was another crazy hot and humid one down here in Houston, TX. Luckily for my family and me, we escaped the oppressive heat for a two-week summer vacation home to Maine in July. We got lucky and picked the most beautiful two weeks you could ask for in Maine. Cool summer breezes, trips to the lake and the beach, and not a drop of rain to ruin a thing.
Here are a few updates from classmates all over the country!
Emily Phillips MacRae ’07G was named area sales manager for north Iowa at U.S. Cellular. She has worked for the company for eight years and recently moved from Maine to Des Moines, IA, with her husband, Ryan.
Maine Business School graduate Kristie Libby has been the director of marketing and development at the Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln for many years. And now she is returning to receive her MBA online. Kristie serves as the hospital spokesperson and media contact, informing residents and the community about changes in hospital policy. Writing the annual benefit report, putting out news releases, and writing articles for the monthly newsletter are just some of the things that keep her busy day-to-day.
Bruce Harrington ‘06G has joined Maine State Credit Union as the assistant vice president and commercial loan officer. A lifelong resident of central Maine, Bruce previously worked at Skowhegan Savings. He has worked in commercial banking for over 12 years at various institutions in the greater Waterville and Augusta area. In addition to his work responsibilities, Bruce is the board chair of the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce and sits on various other boards and committees in the region. He also coaches youth soccer and t-ball!
Jamie Hannon, associate professor of adventure education at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH, recently authored a book for the Appalachian Mountain Club titled AMC’S Mountain Skills Manual: The Essential Hiking and Backpacking Guide. The AMC is the nation’s oldest outdoor club. According to the Amazon listing for the book, “this comprehensive guide covers the essential skills every hiker and backpacker needs to knows. Novice and experienced outdoorspeople will appreciate this authoritative resource on trip planning, gear, food, navigation, and mountain safety.”
And finally, the folks at Orono Brewing Company, Heather Furth ’03, Abe Furth ’07, and Mark Horton are continuing to expand all over the Orono and Bangor area. After opening a taproom location last year in downtown Bangor, the team is now expanding the brewing facilities in Orono with the purchase of a 10,000-square-foot industrial building on the banks of the Penobscot. Renovations began this summer. And on a personal note, I can tell you that the beer coming out of their operation is phenomenal! While on vacation this summer I got to experience the new downtown Bangor taproom offerings and it was mighty delicious. Cheers!
