Many thanks to Heidi Dombrock Weaver, who wrote this column for nearly 20 years.
We now need someone to pick up the pen (or laptop) and continue the job. Please contact Abby Zelz at abigail.zelz@maine.edu at the UMaine Alumni Association if you are interested in writing the class column. It only takes a little time, twice a year.
Here’s some of the class news, starting with sports:
Josh Nash was inducted into the Midcoast Sports Hall of Fame last fall. Josh ran track and played basketball during high school, and was the all-time leading scorer in the history of Medomak Valley High School. He played basketball during his first year at UMaine, but had an injury during his sophomore year that ended his career.
Amy Vachon was inducted into the Maine Sports Legends Hall of Honors. Last winter, Amy guided the Black Bears to the second straight America East conference championship. As a player, she helped the team to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Although she was initially not interested in coaching after her playing career with the Black Bears had ended, she began working as a guidance counselor, and wound up coaching at various Maine high schools. She was hired as assistant coach at UMaine in 2011.
At Husson University, Nat Clark ’12G became the Eagles’ head football coach, succeeding Gabby Price ’73, his former coach and mentor. Nat played football at Bangor High, where Gabby coached, and he later became his assistant at both Bangor High and Husson.
Jeffrey Joyce has joined Eaton Peabody, working from the firm’s Portland office. He focuses on intellectual property law, including patent prosecution and trademark and copyright matters. Jeff previously worked in the national defense industry as a software engineer and project manager.
And Bill Post G became the town manager of Rockport last summer. Bill previously served as town manager of Bradley, Damariscotta, Bowdoinham, and Waldoboro. He also is a baseball umpire in midcoast Maine and lives with his family in Waldoboro.
There’s more news, but we need your help to report it. Please consider becoming the class correspondent and sharing the news.
