Cameron O’Brien was hired by Senator Susan Collins in late 2017 as a legislative assistant, handling a portfolio that includes fisheries, agriculture, forestry, transportation, and housing. Cameron returned to Collins’ office after nearly two years with the Government Affairs and Public Policy team at the D.C.-based firm Steptoe & Johnson. During his time at UMaine, Cameron interned in the senator’s Bangor office and was hired full-time following graduation. Cameron credits UMaine’s State Legislative Internship Program with providing him the experience and connections necessary to pursue a career in public policy.
Jamie Wren is now the research associate and project director at UMaine’s Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center. Jamie collaborates with the Maine CDC to oversee Maine’s opioid overdose surveillance system. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at UMaine in biomedical anthropology. Kelly Newton was inducted into the UMaine Sports Hall of Fame. She was a three-time America East all-conference first-team field hockey selection and was named the 2010 America East Offensive Player of the Year. Gustav Nyquist has signed a four-year deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Wayne Harvey, previously WABI’s early morning news co-anchor in Bangor, became host of the early morning sports radio show on 92.9 FM The Ticket. Wayne’s show, called The Morning Lane, features guests and discussions of the major Boston sports teams, University of Maine sports, and other local events and teams of interest. The Bangor sports radio station’s website will also include a podcast that Wayne will host.
