Class of 1972 Summer 2020 Class Note

Anne Dearstyne Ketchen

I’m writing this during surreal times — socially distanced because of COVID-19. My husband and I have been taking long walks in the woods every day, and are getting used to using Zoom for virtual exercise classes, book group meetings, church services, happy hour, and dinner with friends. I hope by the time the column is published, all of our lives have returned to normal.

Last January, Dan Legere, who is a Registered Maine Guide, and his wife, Penny, announced plans to sell their popular Greenville fly shop after 38 years of business. The Maine Guide Fly Shop caters to fly fishers who flock to the region’s ponds, rivers, and streams. Dan says, “Everything is in place for the right person or people to continue a well-established business that has brought countless fishermen to our door to shop with us, fish with our guides, and enjoy all the Moosehead region has to offer.”

Gary Hotham was the DC-area winner in the 2020 Golden Haiku Contest sponsored by the Gold Triangle Business Improvement District. The seventh annual contest attracted over 1,700 submissions from 40 countries and 31 states and the District of Columbia. Gary’s haiku was one of 300 noteworthy haiku displayed on posters throughout the area from late February through mid-April. More information about the contest may be found at this website: goldentriangledc.com/initiative/golden-haiku-2020-winners/.

Be well.
