Andrew P. Nagelin
Hello, Class of ’87!
I am writing this article in early April, in what I hope is the middle of the Coronavirus pandemic. Hopefully by the time you read this, life will be back to normal or whatever the new normal may turn out to be.
Joan Gass LeMole ’94G was hired by New Hope for Women this past December. The agency provides support for women in Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, and Waldo counties effected by domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. Joan brings 19 years of experience as a mental health clinician as well as five years as a non-profit executive director. In her position she will cultivate relationships within the community as well as oversee fundraising and grant-writing activities. IDEMIA appointed Dan Kent as senior vice president and chief technology officer. Dan will head up product management, IT, information security/cyber security, and engineering.
Dan has more than 28 years of experience bringing IT solutions to the public sector market and previously worked for Cisco Systems.
In last November’s elections, Dan Tremble was re-elected to the Bangor City Council.
Maine’s Secretary of State, Matthew Dunlap ’94G, was elected Eastern Region vice president for the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS). This association brings together all state secretaries in a non-partisan environment to exchange ideas and develop public policy.
Gregg Palmer ’99 CAS is the new superintendent of schools for the city of Brewer. Greg began his teaching career at Brewer High School in 1994 as a special education teacher. In 2002 he became principal at Searsport District High School. He then moved to Falmouth High School in 2010, and then Deering High School in 2017, serving as principal at both schools.
Roberta Hersom was appointed interim superintendent for SAD 49 in Fairfield. Starting in 2017, Roberta had been assistant superintendent of SAD 40. Previous to that she spent 19 years at Lawrence High School as a teacher and principal.
Jay Kemble ’95G has moved from assistant to head coach of the Bangor High girls’ basketball team. Jay was a pitcher at UMaine and was an assistant baseball coach as well.
Lynn Coutts has moved to the University of Denver to take on the position of deputy director of athletics for student-athlete excellence. Lynn was a standout athlete at both the high school and collegiate level, setting records, and was team captain at UMaine from 1985 to 1987. While a coach at UMaine, she led the softball team to an America East championship in 2016.
I hope all of you and your families come through this ordeal unscathed.
Regards,
Andy
