UMaine Athletics released a video in February outlining plans for the $90 million gift from the Harold Alfond Foundation.
The funds will advance the state’s only Division 1 athletics program and benefit athletes in addition to providing a space for community events.
UMaine President Joan Ferrini-Mundy noted that when completed, the master plan and the facilities “will provide our campus and the state with exciting, flexible space for a number of community events and academic pursuits. From high school athletics championships and STEM education fairs to other statewide and community events for all ages, the potential and promise are endless.”
UMaine Athletics is addressing small upgrades during the summer before beginning construction on the new fields in the summer of 2022.
