Hello, Class of 2018!
I invite all of you to send me any information about yourselves and what exciting things have taken place for you since graduation. Feel free to also send me any photos you may want to have published in the alumni magazine. Any little bit of news is newsworthy! Your classmates do want to hear from you and what you are doing.
Cameron Langlois has been promoted to the role of MEMIC express underwriter at the MEMIC Group, specialists in workers’ compensation insurance. Cameron is now responsible for developing the company’s express book serving small business in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. This company works exclusively through independent agents and brokers. Cameron joined the MEMIC group in 2018 as an underwriting analyst following his graduation from UMaine, where he earned his B.A. in accounting and finance.
Dina Yacoubagha G, a graduate of UMaine’s School of Social Work who ran for the Bangor City Council, will chair the city’s newly formed diversity and racial equity committee. Dina, a native of Syria, was one of eight candidates for three city council seats. The committee will begin its work by reviewing the Bangor Police Department’s policy on body cameras, which were authorized last year. They also plan to work with the Greater Bangor Housing Coalition on homelessness and collaborate with the school department’s committee on diversity and inclusion to raise awareness of racism and discrimination in the public schools.
Upon receiving her M.S. from UMaine, Emily Nocito, originally from New Jersey, moved to Colorado, where she quickly became engaged in the graduate liaison program for Colorado University, Boulder. She is one of six graduate liaisons that serve as primary contacts for communicating with other graduate students. In addition to sharing information, they also create and host professional development activities such as webinars, podcasts, and workshops.
It is with a heavy heart that we report Matthew T. Austin was killed last October in a loading dock accident in Germantown, NY. Matthew received his bachelor’s degree in wildlife ecology. He graduated from Millbury High School in Massachusetts in 2013.
