James E. Hews has been named chief operating officer of the Hews Company LLC, a South Portland-based manufacturer and distributor of truck bodies and equipment. Jim recently returned to the family business after working in Boise, ID. He also spent four years with the FBI, where he led international and domestic counter-terrorism investigations in the New York City area.
Gregory M. Hirsch, former goalie for the University of Maine’s 1993 national championship men’s ice hockey team, was inducted into the 2020 class of the Orono High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He coached boys’ ice hockey at Orono High School for 18 years, including the only undefeated (20-0) regular season in 2001. He concluded his coaching career at OHS in 2013 with a 224-138-12 record. This past season, Greg was a volunteer coach for the Bangor High School boys’ ice hockey team.
Joining Greg as a volunteer coach at Bangor High was Guy Perron ’04G, UMaine’s 18th all-time scorer with 146 points on 62 goals and 84 assists. He was the UMaine women’s ice hockey coach for two years and coached Bangor High School from 1992-94.
