Hello, Class of 2002!
In February, Julie Munsey was named the next president of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce. Julie previously served as the membership and corporate development director for the Maine International Trade Center. She is the first female president of the chamber and has been an active leader in various organizations, including our very own Alumni Association.
Scott Oxley G, recently the president of Northern Light Acadia Hospital and senior vice president of Northern Light Health, was named the president of the Galen Cole Family Foundation. Scott spent 30 years at Northern Light but is eager to take on this new challenge.
Victoria Purdum reached out with an update to share. Victoria retired from the UMaine College of Engineering dean’s office in 2018, married in Key West in 2019, and became a Master Gardener in 2021. In May of 2022, she was diagnosed with ALS and since has been actively involved with Zoom groups and helping others with ALS. She’s been battling the disease and raising awareness through social media so check her out at “Victoria Battles ALS” on both Facebook and YouTube.
Finally, our very own class president is heading back to our great state. Gus Burkett ’05G has been appointed the dean of the college at Colby College in Waterville. Gus most recently served as the senior associate dean of diversity and community involvement at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and has held positions at Boston College, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and our own UMaine.
