Hello everyone. Here is the latest news from our classmates.
Mike Pinkham, of Sullivan, has been appointed harbormaster for the town of Gouldsboro. Previously he worked as a Maine Marine Patrol officer in Rockland, Machias, and eastern Hancock County for 33 years before retiring in 2013.
Penobscot Nation voters have elected Patricia Knox-Nicola to a four-year term on the Tribal Council.
Members of the McElwain family started farming potatoes in Aroostook County in the early 1900s. In 1985, Frank McElwain joined his father in the family’s first foray into strawberry production. Today, Frank and his wife, Joan Aucoin McElwain, grow strawberries, apples, pumpkins, and other vegetables, and operate a busy farm store. Frank and Joan raised three children and, in addition to the farm, balanced full-time careers. Frank was a school superintendent until his retirement in 2014 and Joan worked as a hospital lab manager. She retired in 2020.
I was happy to receive an email from James “Jimbo” Doucette. He stated that he retired at the end of February after 44 years of working as an engineer. Over the course of his career, he worked in pulp and paper mills on every continent except Antarctica. He is looking forward to fishing, visiting friends and family, and NOT getting on an airplane anytime soon! Jimbo lives in Dalton in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts. He states that he still is in touch with classmates Keith Hall, David Sherlock, and Ted Cowan.
That does it for now. I hope you all have a wonderful summer. Drop me a line so I can let your classmates know what you’ve been up to — retirements, vacations, family events, or whatever strikes your fancy. Although I appreciate all the help provided by the Alumni office, personal notes from you are always best. Cheers!
