In fall of 2022, Joe Slowinski coached Team Belgium in the European Bowling Federation Championship of Champions held at Bowland in Olomouc, Czech Republic. This tournament features the national champions from every European nation. Mats Maggie of Team Belgium, coached by Joe for 10 years, won the gold medal.
MMG insurance Co. appointed Matthew McHatten president and CEO. Previously, Matthew was the executive vice president and chief operating officer. He started at the Presque Isle-based property and casualty insurer in 2001. Matthew also serves on the University of Maine Business School Advisory Board.
Todd Hanson is part of the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2023. He will be honored with other inductees at a ceremony held in August at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Todd was a part of Waterville’s 1985 Class A state title and then played basketball at the University of Maine. Todd coached the boys’ basketball team at Brunswick for 25 years, winning the 2002 Class A state title and winning 309 games over his coaching career.
In January 2023, Julie A. Libby was appointed to the board of directors of Katahdin Bankshares Corp., parent company of Katahdin Trust Company, a full-service community bank in Maine. Julie lives in Florida and Presque Isle. She is retired from the asset management industry and spent her career working in New York City.
Ray Bolduc is president and CEO of WBRC Inc., an engineering, architecture, and design firm. WBRC, founded in 1902, has 58 professionals and offices in Bangor and Portland, ME; Lakewood Ranch, FL; Columbia, MD; and Birmingham, MI. Ray joined the firm in 2000 and his most recent role was director of WBRC’s education studio, where he was principal-in-charge of some of the firm’s most high-profile projects.
Jake Akoury of The Bullfinch Group was named Five Star Wealth Manager for the fourth consecutive year. The Five Star Wealth Manager award is an annual award given to financial managers for their exemplary client service and knowledge of the financial services industry.
