Photographer Arend Thibodeau has published Forgotten Industry and Institutions of Maine: Tales of Milkmen, Axe Murderers, and Ghost Trains.
“Changes to our industry and institutions have left behind artifacts of a bygone era,” Arend writes. “This book offers a visual tour of our forgotten past and practices in hopes of preserving history to prevent it from vanishing entirely.”
One section of the book focuses on Maine’s abandoned railroads and the buildings, engines, and railroad cars now decaying in remote parts of the state. Also included in the book are photos of old mills, an abandoned jail, and images of Maine houses of worship that are no longer in use.
