Congratulations to John Bapst Athletic Director and Football Coach Dan O’Connell G, who received the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators State Award of Merit. The award recognizes outstanding leadership and meritorious service and achievement in the vocation of interscholastic administration. “I am grateful to work with outstanding student-athletes at John Bapst. Working to provide opportunities for high school kids to learn, grow, and succeed through educational-based athletics is a dream come true, and to be recognized for your efforts is such an honor,” he said.
UMaine’s Sports Hall of Fame inducted Stacey Porrini Clingan for her contributions to the Black Bears women’s basketball team. Stacey, who passed in 2018 of breast cancer, was a key component in UMaine’s four consecutive conference championships from 1993-1997. She scored 1,128 career points, and her 929 rebounds is the fifth-most in school history. Her 185 career blocks is second most. Stacey owns the school record for the most blocked shots in a season (79), in a game (7), and also for the most rebounds ever grabbed in an NCAA Tournament game (13).
