Hello, classmates, we are happy to share some class news with you in this edition of the alumni magazine! In late September, the Senior Alumni Reunion took place on campus and alumni from many different classes came back to join in the festivities. Jean McIntire White ’52, who lives in Orono, attended the Senior Alumni luncheon and represented our Class of 1952! She was able to visit with fellow Black Bears, hear about the Senior Alumni non-traditional student scholarship program, and hear from a panel of UMaine students who told everyone about life on campus and their plans for the future. We are so happy Jean could be there to represent our great Class of 1952!
According to the Alumni Association’s records, we have 163 classmates still living. I hope many of you are reading this today and are as proud of our UMaine education and our class as we are. We should be very proud of all that our class has given back to our alma mater, particularly our class scholarship fund. Our fund is set up to financially assist descendants of the Class of 1952 as they pursue their degrees at UMaine. For academic year 2023-24, our 1952 Class Scholarship was awarded to Elliott Gagnon-Victor, a senior studying secondary education from Ellsworth, ME. His grandmother is the late Joan Vachon Victor ’52. We are so pleased we can provide this financial assistance to Joan’s grandson.
As of September 30, 2023, the principal value of our Class of 1952 Buchanan Alumni House fund was $124,783, and our class scholarship fund principal balance was $170,190. We continue to make a difference on campus and to current students.
That’s all the news for now. If you have an update to share, please send it to us or notify the Alumni Association and we will be sure to include your news in the next column!
Take care, everyone!
