Class of 1970 Summer 2024 Class Note

Here we are again — short, but at least some news! Received a call — then an email from our classmate Jim Aucoin. I’m just going to quote Jim directly! I loved it — he wrote as if I was actually the one writing (thanks, Jim)! “Jim Aucoin, a former Maine Masquer, let me know that his play, Bartleby Prefers Not To, an adaptation of the Herman Melville short story “Bartleby the Scrivener,” was given a two-night staged reading by the Berkshire Historical Society at Arrowhead, Melville’s home in Pittsfield, MA. It’s available on Amazon. After a failed attempt at an acting career in New York City, Jim returned to UMaine Law school in 1988 and retired from the Penobscot County DA’s office in 2017. He sends his regards to all his UM friends.”

Kimber Noyes and his wife, Cynthia Mooers Noyes ’73, have owned and operated their flower shop and greenhouse (known as Noyes Flower & Plant Shoppe) in Caribou, ME, for the past 48 years. Now they are ready to retire and would love to pass their business down to a young entrepreneur! If that doesn’t work out, they would consider hiring a manager to work full time in the shop. So, Kimber and Cynthia — if you are reading this — we wish you the best!

Former Fort Kent coach, Terrence Carpenter G, is “giving back” to athletes who participated in the three sports he used to coach (soccer, girls basketball, and baseball). How is Terre doing this? By donating three $1,000 scholarships! I think that speaks of a huge heart!

As I type, there is still snow on the ground here in Maine. BUT the sun was out, and I actually sat outside with my morning cup of coffee — just soaking it in! Would love to hear from more of you out there — so please write! Enjoy the summer and take care!
