Greetings, Class of 1986! Hoping your summer is full of all the good things in life!
Robin Woodman LaBonte, who currently serves as the chief financial officer at York Hospital in York, ME, was recently appointed to serve on the board of directors of the United Way of Southern Maine.
Mark A. Violette has been inducted into the Marquis Who’s Who. Factors that contribute to selection in the Marquis volume include community position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in their field. Violette is currently the founder and owner of Maine Mortgage Solutions, located in Scarborough, ME. In addition to his current company, Mark has worked in information technology.
A perennial column favorite, Kissy Walker was inducted in the 2024 Maine Sports Hall of Fame. As many of us know, Kissy’s successful basketball career began at Cony High School and the University of Maine. As coach of the women’s basketball team, Walker is the longest-tenured coach in a single sport in Husson University history. As of this writing, she has a 582 – 296 record.
Last but not least, longtime Bangor Daily News (BDN) sportswriter and editor Pete Warner retired at the end of 2023. Pete began his career as a part-time sports clerk in (get this) 1977! He remembers the noisy manual typewriters, copy paper, and the smell of cigarette smoke in the newsroom. Fortunately, for the BDN, Pete isn’t going away completely. He plans to serve as an Outdoors contributor to the paper and share stories of his own adventures in Maine. Congratulations to you, Pete, and all our classmates!
Take care and enjoy a stein-filled summer!
