Having lost a traditional graduation experience because of the pandemic, members of UMaine’s classes of 2020 and 2021 returned to campus on May 8 for a delayed but more conventional Commencement celebration.
Keynote speaker Ukeme Awakessien Jeter ’04, an attorney, city councilor, and member of the UMaine Alumni Association Board of Directors, encouraged attendees to confidently go “off-script” when personal or career growth opportunities arise.
“Do not be afraid to try something new or pivot altogether,” she advised. “Your biggest challenge when you do will be overcoming your fears…Use it as an opportunity to learn.” Watch her presentation here.
