It is with great sadness that we begin this short column with news that has just come into our hands, thanks to Nancy Schott Plaisted ’53, who writes the columns for the classes of 1952 and 1953. As you will notice by our column heading the name of Mary “Mac” MacKinnon Nelson is no longer listed after her passing in July, due to a brief battle with cancer.
According to her obituary in the Portland Press Herald, “Mary was an avid golfer and a rabid Patriots and Bowdoin fan. She was a strong, independent woman. She may have been small in stature, but she spoke her mind and her voice carried weight. She had a wonderful sense of humor. She was a loyal friend with many lifelong friendships. Those “old “friends knew her as Mac. She was a thrifty, pragmatic New Englander and she leaves this earth with no unfinished business.” We all will certainly miss Mac. May she rest in peace.
Unfortunately we have no other news for our column at this writing. This should be a reminder that our beloved Class of ’54 is aging at an increased pace and many of our members have passed. Please let us know of your triumphs and everyday lives.
