Here in Maine, spring has begun and perennials are starting to push through the soil; however, it will be
summer with flowers in bloom when you classmates read these notes. We hope all of you are well and are
ready to let us know what is happening in your lives. Once again, we can hope that things will seem more
“normal” this year.
Duncan Moore ’95H, the Rudolph and Hilda Kingslake Professor of Optical Engineering at the University of
Rochester, was inducted into the National Academy of Inventors. He received both a master’s degree in
optics and a Ph.D. degree in optics from the University of Rochester. In 1995, he also received an Honorary
Doctor of Science degree from UMaine. Duncan has had experience in the academic, research, business,
and government areas of science and technology. His major areas of research are in gradient-index
materials, computer-aided design, the manufacture of optical systems, and medical optics.
Richard ’69G and Glendalyn Hargreaves observed their 60th wedding anniversary on August 26, 2021, at
their home on Porter Lake in New Vineyard. Both Dick and Glenda retired from careers in education from
the Windham school system. After retirement from education, Dick worked as a real estate broker.
We were saddened to read of the death of Robert Finch of Old Town. He had worked in the Bangor schools
for 40 years as a math teacher.
