Class of 1969 Summer 2024 Class Note

We hope you have received the Save the Date postcard for our 55th class Reunion and plan to join us on campus September 12-14. There will be planned tours, guest speakers, and a dinner on Thursday. Our class meeting, luncheon, tours, and a class dinner are scheduled for Friday. Pre-football game activities and then a football game are Saturday’s events. Throughout the Reunion there will be plenty of time to reconnect with classmates. Many classmates who attended the 50th Reunion have remarked that they enjoyed seeing fellow classmates and enjoyed seeing the changes on campus.

Lorna Mitchell Hills wrote that she is planning to attend the 55th class Reunion. She has been retired for 17 years after owning and operating a hydraulic/fluid power business with her late husband. Earlier in retirement, they had explored 47 states throughout the USA. Since the pandemic, Lorna has traveled to Austria, Greece, and Turkey. She wrote that her eight-year-old granddaughter keeps her active and young at heart.

We were saddened to learn of the death of Jerry Goss ’75G, ’77 CAS, Brewer deputy mayor and city councilor. He had spent 33 years as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. Eighteen of those years were at Joseph A. Leonard Junior High in Old Town. He also served as principal of Brewer High for 15 years. In retirement, he served on Brewer High School District Trustees, was co-chair of the Eastern Maine BCD Basketball Tournament, and was president of Rocky Knoll Golf Country Club in Orrington.

Mark your calendars and make plans to attend the 55th Reunion. The Save the Date card also includes information about places to stay. If you didn’t receive this information, contact the UMaine Alumni Association.
