Class of 1974 Spring 2025 Class Note

Greetings from Maine!

Fall is in the air as I write, and by the time you receive the latest MAINE Alumni Magazine, there will be more than frost in the air. It was a spectacular summer and fall.

I was unable to attend the 50th class Reunion due to my work at both the Shaker Village and the Poland Spring Preservation Society, but I heard it was great. We are now Senior Alumni!

I was both surprised and humbled to receive the Golden “M” Award. The Golden “M” Award is voted on by classmates (with input from the Alumni Association) at the 50th Reunion and is presented to a member of the 50th Reunion class for outstanding class service and/or class leadership since graduation. The award was established in 1982 by the late Roger C. Castle ’21 in memory of classmate Emilie Kritter Josselyn ’21, who served the Class of 1921 as class secretary for an unprecedented 60 consecutive years. “Your class and the Alumni Association appreciate and recognize your service to the class as the class correspondent since 2001!” commented Ashley Twombly ’10, ’12G, director of alumni programs. Thank you so much for honoring me. It is something that I will treasure.

The Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society appointed Normand Lamie ’93G as treasurer of their organization. Among his other accomplishments, Normand served on the board of directors and president of the Maine Water Utilities and the New England Water Works Association. He is also a member of the Auburn Lewiston Rotary Club. In addition, his publications, include The History of the Lewiston Canals. He was the recipient of several awards, notably the New England Water Works Association’s Jerome J. Healy Award. In 2010, he was presented the Public Service Leadership Award by the Androscoggin Chamber of Commerce.

Bruce Alan Libby and his wife, Janet Szumowski Libby ’75, sent us information on his business, Contemporary Structures. Based in Ludlow, MA, they manufacture custom interior railings and stairs.

I received notification that the recipient of our Class of 1974 Scholarship is Madison Brown of Veazie. She is a fourth generation UMaine student. She attended John Bapst High School in Bangor and is pursuing a double major in marine science and earth and climate sciences. Congratulations, Madison, your future and the future of Maine looks great!

Well, that’s all the news I have received. Wishing you all a safe winter. Keep your emails coming; your classmates do want to hear from you.
