Hello, Class of ’76!
It’s hard to believe, but many of us are starting to retire! When did that happen? It feels like we just graduated from UMaine yesterday!
I only received a couple of emails from our classmates this time, so I hope now that many of you are retired that you will take a moment and send me an update to share in this column.
Jan Ellis Snitzer writes that she and her husband, Steve Snitzer, have lived in Needham, MA, for 28 years, where they raised two children. They have lived in the Boston area since graduation. Jan is a vice president at Loomis, Sayles & Co., an investment management firm in Boston. Although she majored in Spanish at Orono, she spent most of her career in investment systems and earned an MBA at Boston University. She has also spent a lot of years serving on non-profit boards, for causes of personal interest and for a national industry association. Recently, after all these years of working, traveling for both work and pleasure, and volunteering, she writes that she has resumed her study of Spanish and is looking forward to spending time in Spain when she finally retires. Her father, Osborne Ellis ’51, and mother Virginia Ellis, Colby ’49 urged her to write so they could see her name in this column!
Paula Fowler ’79G writes that she is continuing her non-profit career in a recent move to Greensboro, NC, where she has been hired as the director of development for The Salvation Army of Greensboro. She spent 24 years leading chambers of commerce in Maine and Kentucky, with time through the years also running a Senior Citizen Center in Massachusetts and serving as director of public relations at UM-Presque Isle. Her move brings her closer to parents and other family members. She writes, “I have been heavily involved in the communities I have lived in and continue to be a Rotarian wherever I move. I was the first woman to join the Presque Isle, Maine, Rotary Club in 1987 and have been a member in three states now, serving in leadership capacities in two, and looking forward to doing so in my newest one.”
