Happy depths of winter to all! Hope you are enjoying the season, whether shoveling snow like us New Englanders or basking in the sun somewhere warm.
I was excited to hear from Nicki LeBrun Heupel, a journalism grad like me, with an update on her life. After graduation, Nicki packed up and moved to California and built a successful career in the technology industry, from which she recently retired. I’ll let Nicki take it from here:
“Since 2014, [my husband and I] have hosted an annual benefit fundraiser to support the blood cancer research programs led by Dr. Joseph Tuscano at UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center in Sacramento. Dr. Tuscano treated my husband for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma from 2006 through 2013, and my husband was keen on giving back. Our annual event is called Sunday on the Green and is a golf tournament plus afternoon party with food, beverages, auctions, raffles, and updates on cancer research from Dr. Tuscano. As of May 2024, we reached a milestone of $500,000 donated to the Tuscano Research Fund. In fact, we surpassed our half-million-dollar goal and have a running total of $540,000 donated to date! It’s been an amazing journey, and this year was just over the top.”
Congratulations to Nicki and her husband on a successful fundraising campaign to support research that is clearly near and dear to them.
