Greetings, Class of 1986! Shovels and snowshoes are out here in my corner of Maine!
Linda Buckmaster’s ’95G website states she is a “writer, teacher, wanderer” and most recently, the Belfast author was awarded an Artist Project Grant from the Maine Arts Commission for her project “Of Cod and Community.” Working with a designer, her traveling installation will travel to libraries and other public places in Maine. Adapted in part from her book Elemental: A Miscellany of Salt Cod and the Islands, the installation was designed to hang in community spaces and reflect the centuries-long interrelationships between the North Atlantic cod and humans. For 2024, the traveling literary exhibit “Of Cod and Communities” will be at the Northeast Harbor library and Town Hall (April), Thomas Memorial Library (May), and Camden Public Library (August).
After amassing 52 years of coaching service to Penobscot Valley High School Gerald Hutchinson G, ’92 CAS is entering the next chapter of life! Retirement. The list of “Hutch’s” accomplishments is just a tad long for this short column, but how about three Hall of Fame inductions and a greater than 500-win mark as a wrestling coach for starters. Throw in umpiring baseball and softball games, refereeing soccer, and officiating basketball games. Maybe some driver’s education. And if that was not enough, Hutch has been married to his wife, Patty, for 50 years. Job well done, fellow Black Bear!
But not all of us are retiring! Janine Tarr Tremble, a 24-year employee of Maine Savings Federal Credit Union, was promoted to vice president of community engagement & impact. She has long shared her time and talents volunteering with both the Black Bear Board and the Bangor Region YMCA and is now going to use this energy and passion professionally. In the newly created role, she’ll develop non-profit partnerships in the communities where Maine Savings does business. She’ll also oversee the distribution of charitable donations and provide guidance on existing sponsorships.
Let it snow, Class of 1986 friends, and stay in touch!
