While this has been a year to adapt, adjust, and keep our distance, there have
been a few new ways to bring us together. Across the miles, family, friends, and
even old classmates have been reconnecting over the Internet. Zoom happy
hours have brought college classmates together for the first time in years.
Sometimes the distance in time or miles doesn’t seem that far.
We’d love to celebrate your news and milestones. Please share by sending me
your updates.
Educators from each of Maine’s counties were honored in May in a webcast.
Heather Davison Webster received recognition as the Lincoln County Teacher of
the Year. Heather is an English teacher at Medomak Valley High School and has
been teaching for 22 years. She also is active in extracurricular activities at
MVHS. She is co-director of the school’s one-act play for the Maine Drama
Festival, co-founder of the school’s writing center, and helps produce the online
student literary magazine.
Congratulations, Heather! We appreciate our teachers more than we can express
this year.
While awaiting the return of live sports this summer, former UMaine and Major
League Baseball player and current Padres broadcaster, Mark Sweeney,
launched a new podcast in June called, “Major League Beginnings,” that
encompasses all things baseball. These interviews with favorite stars from
baseball and beyond reveal rarely told tales of the moments their worlds
changed. Fans can access the podcast on Apple, Google, and Spotify for free.
Wishing you all strength and hope in the New Year.
