Happy summer! What a weird winter we had and as I write I’m hoping we have a wonderful summer to make us forget about the winter that wasn’t!
I’m so excited that we heard from Andre Grimard ’02G, who after getting his bachelor’s, went on to finish his grad degree from the College of Education. He’s currently working at the Maine Health Institute for Research (MHIR), where he was recently promoted to research coordinator II. At the MHIR he is working on a couple of studies: one called the APO Study: Atenolol for the Prevention of Osteoporosis which is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and aims to determine whether treating healthy post-menopausal women with a common beta-blocker, atenolol, can help prevent bone loss in the lower back and hip. He’s also working on a study called Strategies to Improve Well-Being and Diabetes Management, which focuses on testing a strategy developed by psychologists to help individuals cope with stress, stigma, and emotions that may arise from stressful situations. He writes that they aim to determine whether this strategy can improve the management process of Type 2 Diabetes. Both studies sound like they can give us some great information about our health!
When not working, Andre works on his 100-year-old home in South Portland. Thanks, Andre, for reaching out!
Without his note, we wouldn’t have had any items for the column this time around — how sad! I know you all are up to some amazing things, travel, and work as well as family additions, so please drop us a line and let us know what is going on with you! Your classmates love to hear from you! Until next time!
