Welcome to winter, classmates — I hope you are warm, toasty, healthy, and happy in this new year. I don’t have too much to share this time around, but it’s still great news so please read on!
Our classmate, Dr. Daniel Gott of Hampden was recently promoted to colonel while assuming the role as the Maine National Guard State Air Surgeon. Daniel is a doctor of osteopathic medicine in Bangor and is serving alongside his son, Airman 1st Class Mitchell Gott. In this new position Daniel is responsible for taking a strategic perspective in planning for the capabilities and characteristics of the Maine Air National Guard’s medical assets, which includes identifying and recommending what may be required to support domestic or contingency operations.
In other news around Maine, the Mt. Blue School District, Regional School Unit 9 in Farmington, has a new superintendent, our classmate Chris Elkington G. Chris started the position in July after serving as superintendent of Maine School Union 76 in Deer Isle. Chris talked to The Franklin Journal at that time about his vision for the RSU and his plans for the new school year. His career trajectory has taken him from substituting in Massachusetts schools, teaching in Maine elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools, and also coaching varsity basketball. He began working in administrative roles in 1995, starting as principal in Gray before moving to Deer Isle as superintendent. Throughout the article Chris discusses his approach to education, challenges he sees in his new professional home, and the impact the pandemic has had on children. You can learn more about his approach in the article — congratulations, Chris!
That’s all from the Class of 1995 for now – I hope to hear from you, soon!
