Class of 1997 Summer 2024 Class Note

I hope this finds you well! I rarely get to see UMaine alums but while at Disney, I met Al, Class of ’72, who works at Saratoga Springs Golf Course! We had a wonderful chat about Black Bear hockey and basketball, and he took one of my few vacation pictures on the golf cart. Thanks again, Al, and hopefully next time I’ll get to drive the golf cart. Let us know what you’re up to at yolandasly@gmail.com or Facebook at Yolanda Sly Kozuha.

The shipping of goods impacts everyone and Robert F. Lindyberg G, ’00 Ph.D. is CEO of Global Secure Shipping, which is making a new type of shipping container. The containers are built from high-strength composite material embedded with advanced sensors designed to enable government and commercial companies to fight theft and tampering, according to MaineBiz. The Old Town-based company uses patented technology from the Department of Homeland Research, UMaine’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center, and the Georgia Tech Research Institute. “The company and technology are being looked at by the shipping industry with a lot of interest.”

Every organization has a story to tell and HistoryIT, founded by Kristen Gwinn-Becker, helps ensure they’re able to tell it. The Portland-based company uses proprietary software designed by Kristen and preservation specialists to help organizations digitize, catalog, and then retrieve their historical assets. “Any organization older than five minutes needs access to their history in order to tell their story,” Kristen told the Portland Press Herald. “We’re trying to give that history a future.”

Best wishes on your new adventure, Jeff Comissiong! Jeff is now defensive line coach at Boston College, according to the Bangor Daily News.

It is always wonderful to see classmates thriving in their professions!
