Class of 1998 Class Note

Hearty Maine Hello! I hope everyone had a good summer and fall. We have a lot of news to report on our classmates this issue!

The Chewonki Foundation named Nancy Kennedy as their new president in May. Nancy has served at Chewonki for nine years in several roles including director of girls programming, vice president for Camp Chewonki, executive vice president, and as the foundation’s acting president for the past two years. Nancy has a Master of Divinity from Bangor Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from the University of New Hampshire. She served as a mentor in the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute, as a board member for Valo, and is a member of the board of the Wiscasset Chamber of Commerce. Nancy was previously director of Wavus Camp for Girls and serves as a faith leader for several organizations.

The Rockland Police Department selected Police Officer John Bagley to be the first school resource officer for RSU 13. John was already a familiar face in the high school through a youth mentorship program. John has been with the Rockland PD since November 2000. He has been a training officer, a certified academy instructor, and part of the Rockland Bike Patrol Unit. He has been trained as a crisis negotiator through the FBI Crisis Negotiation School and keeps current in that field as well as mental health crisis.

Seth Meyer was featured in a Portland Press Herald article in April recognizing his coaching impacts on son Will and in his community as he was hospitalized for non-Hodgkin lymphoma treatment. Seth is director of tennis and head pro at Midcoast Recreation Center (MRC) in Rockland. After graduating, Seth moved to Oregon and was a full-time teaching professional at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center in Beaverton, OR. He and his wife, Erin, returned to Maine in 2005. Seth and the MRC have won numerous awards, and he and his family run two annual benefit tournaments — “Serving to End World Hunger” and “Serving to Prevent Homelessness.” In addition to his work at MRC, he is the chair of the Maine State Leagues Committee, a member of the U.S. Tennis Association New England Leagues Committee, a member of the Maine Youth Tennis Task Force, coordinator of the Maine Junior Team Tennis Spring League and coordinator of the Maine Intro to USTA adult league. Seth is also a member of the Camden Conservation Commission. We hope your recovery is going well, Seth!

We received reports from a couple of our classmates: Paul Bissonnette wrote in May: “I was elected mayor of Bucksport in 2024 and have served on the Bucksport Town Council since 2019 after serving as chair of Bucksport School Committee from 2003-2010. My son is attending the University of Maine in the Honors College.” Congrats and thanks for the update, Paul!

Michael Fraser wrote in July: “I have opened several restaurants, a brewery, and a distillery in Portland, ME — Roma Cafe, Bramhall Pub, Congress Street Bar and Grill, Nosh, Paper Tiger, and Camp Pennant (home of Pennant Distilling and Brewing).” Thanks for the update, Michael!

Please continue to send in your accomplishments and life updates! We love hearing from you!
