Class of 2000 Class Note

Greetings, classmates, it’s time for another round of recognitions for the accomplishments from Class Y2K! This time we start with William Post G (public administration), longtime assistant city manager of Waterville. Last summer Bill accepted the assistant city manager job in Augusta. The state capitol is lucky to get Bill on board, and according to City Manager Jared Mills he is “truly the right person at the right time for the city of Augusta.” Congratulations to Bill and his family!

Congratulations also are extended to Sarah Jameson Perkins (English), who was named the new president/CEO of Lisbon Community Federal Credit Union. Sarah lives in Gorham, where she serves as chairperson of the Gorham School Committee and even was recognized as a Credit Union Rockstar. Congrats, Sarah, you know you make your classmates and Chi Omega sisters proud!

Another remarkable accomplishment comes from Dan Cashman (mass communication), who announced the end of his epic 27-year run as host of The Nite Show. Dan has had a remarkable career, and you can read more about him in an April issue of the Bangor Daily News. A brief summary could include baseball mascot, TV talk show host, radio host, press secretary for state political campaigns, and his current job in public relations. But there only are so many hours in the day, and as much as his audience will miss seeing him, anybody would understand the need to keep evenings free for family. To quote one member of his studio audience from his final road taping, on behalf of Class Y2K, Danny, “you do good work!”

On a more difficult note, we need to mention Jason Moffitt (psychology), chief of police in Brewer. We all recognize the need for public safety, even more in this age of gun violence. We are fortunate to have professionals who go towards danger, and Jason did just that last year. After an attempted robbery of a Walmart, the perpetrator pulled a gun and had to be shot. This is a tragic end to a scary situation, but I’m reminded of all the innocent people who could have been hurt, and am grateful for the difficult work done by our police officers. Brewer was lucky to have you on the job that day, Chief.
