Hi, Class of ’06! I have lots of career updates to report:
Mike DeVito has joined the football staff at University of Maine as director of player development and alumni relations. After playing football at UMaine, Mike played with the New York Jets and then played for Kansas City until retiring after the 2015 season. He currently lives in Hampden with his wife, Jessie, and his sons Rocco, Sal, and Louie.
Kaili Jordan Phillips ’06G is the athletic director at Brunswick High School. Kaili also serves as the assistant principal at Mt. Ararat Middle School in Topsham. She previously started the volleyball program and coached at Brunswick High. Bryan Kaenrath was hired for a five-year term as Waterville’s city manager. His previous positions include city administrator in Saco, town administrator in North Hampton, NH, and town manager in Gouldsboro. Bryan served as a Democrat in the Maine House of Representatives from 2006 until 2014, representing Portland and South Portland. Bryan said his priorities in Waterville include housing, investment in infrastructure, investing in city staff, and continuing downtown revitalization efforts.
Caitlin Howell ’08G was awarded a 2023 Gilbreth Lectureship from the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). This award recognizes outstanding young American engineers and provides them with the opportunity to make presentations at NAE’s fall and spring meetings. Caitlin is an associate professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Maine. Her research focuses on guiding the interactions of biomolecules, micro-organisms, and cells using nontoxic, noninvasive surface-based methods to accomplish specific goals. She leads a team of researchers at the UMaine Biointerface and Biomimetics Lab studying different coatings that can help prevent protein deposition that could lead to urinary tract and blood infections. Her lecture took place at the 2023 NAE conference in February 2023.
Kathleen Bellmore was promoted to senior vice president for talent acquisition and diversity, equity, and inclusion officer at Camden National Bank. This is a new leadership position at the bank. Kate has been working with Camden National Bank in recruiting for over 10 years. She currently lives in South Thomaston. Joel Smith, previously assistant principal, was chosen as interim principal for Mt. Blue High School. He has worked at RSU 9 for almost three decades and previously served in interim administrative roles.
Jenny Killion Paul, a December graduate of the UMaine School of Nursing and Navy ROTC unit, is an active-duty navy nurse corps officer, currently serving as the department head for population health and public affairs officer at US Naval Hospital Rota, Spain. She manages a range of health promotion activities and medical readiness efforts impacting beneficiaries across Europe and Africa. Jenny is enjoying the opportunity to travel with her husband, David ’05, ‘15G, and children, Connor and Genevieve, and support navy medicine priorities related to mentorship, leadership development, process improvement, warfighter wellness, and community engagement.
