Class of 2008 Class Note

Greetings, classmates!

I hope this column finds you and yours healthy and well. Please join me in celebrating the following classmates:

Congratulations to Wes Clark, who the Pittsburgh Penguins have named vice president of player personnel! Wes’s responsibilities include overseeing the club’s amateur, professional, and college/European free agent scouting departments. Wes is no stranger to hockey, as he played four seasons of collegiate hockey at UMaine from 2004-2008. He previously was in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization.

Speaking of sports news, congratulations to Marie-Andree Canuel, who was recently inducted into the University of Maine Sports Hall of Fame! Marie-Andree was recognized for earning All-New England honors and America East first-team all-conference accolades three times during her soccer career. She was also a three-time America East all-tournament team selection and was named the conference rookie of the year in 2005, as well as the league’s midfielder of the year in 2005.

Next up, congratulations to Alfred ‘Chip’ Haskell, who was one of five vice president promotions at his engineering firm, Haley Ward. Chip started at the Bangor office in 2008 as an engineering technician and was most recently promoted to senior project manager.

Also in the engineering world, congratulations to Tyler Jolicoeur ’10G, who was recognized at the third annual MaineMBA Alumni Awards and Business Forum. He received the Engineering Alumni Leadership Award for making “a significant contribution of leadership or innovation to the engineering field.” Tyler became the CFO at Compotech in 2021 and became their CEO in 2022.

Speaking of CEOs, congratulations to Melissa Pelkey, who was named CEO of Penobscot Valley Hospital! She was previously their chief nursing officer and has been in administrative leadership for over 20 years at other rural Maine hospitals.

Congratulations also to Molly Feeney ’09G, who was named Knox County Homeless Coalition’s executive director. She has been at the agency for six years, previously serving as their interim executive director after their previous ED retired.

I also want to congratulate Bucksport High School’s new principal Aaron Ward ’22G! Aaron has many years of experience in schools and was previously a teacher and coach at Mattanawcook Academy for 12 years.

Thank you for all the updates! Keep ‘em coming!
