Hey everyone, here’s some of the class news: Basketball star Sigi Koizar was inducted into the UMaine Sports Hall of Fame in October. Sigi was UMaine’s leading scorer for the Black Bears during three of her four seasons and earned two America East all-tournament team honors. She ranks ninth on Maine’s all-time scoring list.
Morghen Tidd ’20G and Andy Mallory ’20G presented their work during Readingpalooza in Bangor last summer. The event enabled local writers to read their work to an audience and gauge their response. Morghen teaches creative writing at UMaine and Andy is a lecturer in the philosophy department.
At the American Society for Nutrition competition, NUTRITION 2024, in Chicago last summer, Leigh Neptune ’19, ’21G was a finalist for the Young Investigators Underrepresented in Nutrition Award Competition. Leigh is a doctoral student at UMaine. Her abstract is titled “Food Insecurity Worsens on College Campuses Following the COVID-19 Pandemic.”
Sarah Holbrook was a finalist in the sixth annual BioME Student Showcase for life science research last spring. The annual event supports innovation and provides students the opportunity to network with professionals or connect with entrepreneurial resources. Sarah placed first for her research titled “A Novel Category of Neuromuscular Disease: A Quest for a Cure.”
Elijah Willox joined the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) as a research staff member in the Operational Evaluation Division of IDA’s Systems and Analyses Center. IDA is based in Alexandria, VA.
