Class of 2018 Summer 2024 Class Note

Hello, Class of 2018!

I invite all of you to send me any information about yourselves and whatever exciting activities have taken place for. Feel free to also send me any photos you may want to have published in the Alumni magazine. Any little bit of news is newsworthy! Your classmates do want to hear from you and what you are doing.

Paige Emerson ’21G has been getting some traction with her site, “Chubby Hiker Reviews.” In addition to being featured on “Good Morning America,” she has also had the opportunity to be featured in four other articles during the past three years. These include the Bangor Daily News, Channel 5, the Portland Press Herald, and Everyday Health.

Genevieve Kunlee McDonald, former state representative, was appointed to the Island Workforce Housing, a nonprofit housing advocacy group; it is an initiative to create affordable housing in Stonington and Deer Isle. Prior to her hiring, the organization had been led by volunteers. It is now growing and looks forward to hiring its first executive director.

During Genevieve’s time as member of the Maine House of Representatives, she also served as chair of the Government Oversight Committee. She was also a member of the marine resources committee and served on working groups of the Maine Climate Council and is now on the board of advisors for the William S. Cohen Institute for Leadership and Public Service at the University of Maine.

Prior to her time in office, she was captain of a commercial fishing boat in Stonington. She was also the first woman appointed to the Lobster Advisory Council where she served eight years as Downeast region representative.

After graduation, Spencer Martell went on to complete his pharmacy degree at Husson College in Bangor and is now employed as the pharmacy manager at his local Walgreens in Hampden, ME.

Holly A. Lupo has joined the law firm of Skelton, Taintor & Abbott as an associate attorney. Holly graduated from the University of Maine School of Law in 2023 and the University of Maine with a B.A. in psychology. She was admitted to practice in all Maine state courts last October.

Holly intends to focus on real estate law, business and corporate law, and estate planning. She was a legal intern for the Volunteer Lawyers Project in 2019 and Penobscot Community Health Care in 2021. Most recently, she was a legal intern with MaineHealth in 2022. Additionally, she served as president of the University of Maine School of Law’s Business Law Association, is a CALI award recipient for Small Business Entrepreneurship, and is the 2023 Corporate Business Law Award recipient from the University of Maine School of Law.

It was announced that Cody Fitzgerald was recently hired as the director of sports performance for the University of Maine. He earned his B.S. in kinesiology in 2018 and his master’s in exercise and sport sciences in 2019 from Merrimack University. He begins his role as director after serving as a sports performance coach at Maine, the head strength and conditioning coach at Saint Anselm College, and a graduate fellowship at Merrimack College. He also served as sports performance coach at UMaine where he worked with the men’s and women’s ice hockey programs.
