Hello, Class of 2019 alumni! The UMaine Class of 2019 is doing great things with their degrees from UMaine, from agriculture to research to management here in Maine to across the country.
Lucas Yoder is a member of the Hannaford Retail Management Trainee Program (RMT), which currently has 23 trainees. Lucas is energized by retail and “loves working in the fast-paced environment and the sense of community that comes along with working in large teams.”
The University of Maine Chemistry Department has several 2019 alumni making great strides in their fields. Angus Koller pursued his Ph.D. in inorganic and radiochemistry at Stony Brook University. He defended his thesis last spring and is currently teaching chemistry at the University of Southern Maine.
Gabrielle Bock ’22G returned to Maine to work in material and polymer science at IDEXX in Portland. While out of state, she worked at the Research Foundation of New York at Stony Brook University Hospital, focusing on brain chemistry. In August 2022, she earned her MBA to help her target her work in industry.
Sadie Novak and Nicole Pinnette are two more Ph.D. candidates from the chemistry department. Sadie is a candidate at Syracuse University. Her focus is on a transmembrane protein and its relationship to prostate cancer. Nicole is conducting her research at Boston College. She focuses on using covalent chemical warheads to target and disrupt protein- protein interactions.
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International (DKG) is an honor society of women educators who promote professional and personal growth and excellence in education.
Maylinda Boynton was inducted into the Maine State Organization of DKG in September 2023. Maylinda teaches music at Mattanawcook Middle and High Schools in Lincoln, ME.
Many farms in Maine have been around for several generations and are still going strong. One of those farms is Sweetser’s Apple Barrel and Orchards in Cumberland. Eben Sweetser, his wife, Kate, and his father are now the stewards who will maintain the farm and continue its success for generations to come.
Northern Light Health hired Marwa Hassanien G as the first director of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in early 2021, and she is now a vice president. In March 2024, the University of Maine acknowledged Marwa’s innovation in healthcare by presenting her with the Maryann Hartman Award on International Women’s Day. Her community work includes serving on the board of directors for the Bangor Region YMCA, Maine Multicultural Center, and Good Shepherd Food Bank.
As a proud mother of Black Bears, I wanted to share that my son, Noah Lambert ’25, participated in recording the eclipse on April 8th. He was part of a team that launched a high-altitude balloon to livestream the eclipse! Find more info in UMaine News.
