Hello, Class of 2022! Introductions are in order: I’m Garrett, your new Class of 2022 correspondent and I’m happy to say that I’ll be sharing with you updates for our class column in the MAINE Alumni Magazine. I graduated from UMaine in ’22 with a B.A. in philosophy, with minors in legal studies and history. I am a New Jersey native, and I am currently back in my home state while I pursue a Juris Doctorate at Seton Hall University School of Law, where I am currently a 1L. While at UMaine I was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity, the UMaine Pre-Law Society, and a Levinson Ambassador for the Philosophy Department. Enough about me, here’s news about you guys:
Samantha Sudol recently published a historical mystery novel, The Solar Eclipse: A James Anderson Mystery. Samantha will also be attending the University of Exeter to complete her Master’s in English Literary Studies this fall.
Ferda Farms and Orono Brewing Company are collaborating to create a new beer, Pearl Oyster Stout. This collab is very much due in part to Max Burtis, a founder of Ferda Farms. At an alumni event, Max connected with the owner of OBC, and they planned to create a beer that captures “the best of what Maine has to offer.”
Scott Christiansen was hired by Haley Ward as a structural engineer in the building design service line. Scott holds a B.S. in civil engineering from UMaine.
Allison Treat joined Bangor Savings Bank as a management trainee. This position follows an internship Allison had with Bangor Savings. Allison is a graduate of the Maine Business School.
Cameron Houde works for Cross Insurance as a benefits specialist. During Cameron’s time at UMaine in the Business School he interned with Cross Insurance at both their Portland and Bangor locations.
Gabby Benson joined the audit staff at Baker Newman Noyes (BNN). Gabby received the offer for this position at the end of her internship with BNN, where she assisted in audits of a variety of companies. Gabby is a graduate from the Maine Business School.
Christian P. Hartling ’23G gained experience with an internship at the Maine International Trade Center last summer after obtaining his MBA from UMaine. Christian said that he values the relationships and connections that he made during this internship, in addition to the opportunity it gave him to learn about commerce between Maine, other states, and foreign countries.
Stephanie Tillotson was awarded a $8,500 fellowship from Phi Kappa Phi, the oldest and most selective collegiate honor society in the nation. Stephanie plans on pursuing a Juris Doctorate from the University of Maine School of Law.
Taylor Leech signed a one-year contract to play for Leksand IF, a professional hockey team in Sweden. Taylor was a defender for UMaine’s women’s ice hockey team, appearing in 133 games and scoring eight goals during her five-year collegiate career.
Jakub Sirota began his professional career with the American Hockey League’s Iowa Wild. Jakub was a defenseman and captain while playing for UMaine’s men’s ice hockey team, appearing in 130 games with 13 goals.
Zavier Scott signed with the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent. Zavier played 24 games with the UMaine football team, completing 60 catches for 649 yards (2 TD receptions), and running the ball 74 times for 494 yards (6 running TDs).
Do not be disheartened if you sent something to the Alumni Association and it was not featured in this column. I am working through the backlog of our class’s recent achievements, and I am bound by the word count, but I will get to you eventually. In addition, if you have news you would like to share with the class or know of someone in the Class of 2022 who has recently achieved something, please feel free to send it to me for a feature!
