Class of 2023 Summer 2024 Class Note

Hello to the Class of 2023, and happy summer! We are one year out from graduation and have heard so much wonderful news about the post-grad experience from you all. If you are interested in sharing your adventures with your fellow 2023 alumni and others, please direct any news to me at laura.curioli@maine.edu or the Alumni Association so we can proudly share in your exciting developments!

Last summer Delaney Colson of Rutland, MA, who graduated with a dual degree in history and secondary education, worked at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, via the highly competitive Frank and Peggy Steele Internship Program for Youth Leadership Development. This gave her the opportunity to use the skills developed in both her undergraduate majors, while also pursuing work with one of her passions: baseball. While working in the education department of the NBHF, Delaney assisted in developing educational resources such as lesson plans for teachers and field trip plans (virtual and in-person), as well as assisting in creating exhibits and programs for the museum’s daily visitors. Delaney’s work is a great example of the creative direction students can take their UMaine degrees!

Riley Sullivan of Boothbay Harbor, ME, has been pursuing her dreams since graduation last May. After receiving her registered nurse certification, she has been working at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She attends to patients of all ages through the general medicine department. Looking forward, Riley hopes to work on her specialization for either the ER, oncology, or hospice. We are all enthralled to hear of Sullivan’s success postgrad and congratulate her on the hard work she has put into achieving her dream career.

Joseph Morrison is a fourth generation UMaine Black Bear. Not a lot of alumni can claim that distinction! The Morrison family was honored with the Fogler Legacy Award in recognition of the generations of UMaine graduates.

Finally, New Ventures Maine has recently hired two UMaine alumni: Oyebanjo Ogunlela G and Dion Olmstead ’20G. Oyebanjo attended UMaine for a Master of Arts degree in global policy, while simultaneously working as a teaching assistant and lecturer. At NVME, he will work as a small business advisor as well as create online courses for entrepreneurs throughout the state of Maine. Dion is joining NVME as a microenterprise specialist. Through this position he will assist Maine entrepreneurs with business/asset development and one-on-one coaching opportunities. Dion graduated from College of the Atlantic with a B.A. in environmental design, as well as a graduate certificate in business from UMaine. His work at UMaine is not done however, as he is continuing to pursue an MBA in food technology industry management. We look forward to Dion’s future graduation from UMaine, and further news of Oyebanjo’s experiences at NVME.

Cheers to summer, and we look forward to hearing more wonderful news in the future!
