Rising Star Award Recipient
Kristin Gilmour is an academic counselor in the University of Maine Athletics Department for men’s and women’s ice hockey and football. Her expertise in this area is undebatable – a decade as a Black Bear athlete, student, and tutor gives her the insight to guide the next generation of Black Bears to success.
As a women’s ice hockey letterwinner herself, Gilmour joined the University of Maine M Club, a group of alumni letterwinners who are involved in supporting current and former Black Bear athletes. It is in recognition of her tireless service to the M Club as a member of their board of directors that Gilmour is being honored with the Rising Star Award.
When Gilmour joined the M Club in 2019 she was their youngest member by far – the next-youngest member being 20 years her senior. That didn’t stop her from diving in, serving as board secretary, a position she still holds. It is with her efforts that the M Club has branched out to increase their social media presence, engaging with the next generation of alumni to connect them to their alma mater. She also works hard to recognize former student-athletes at the M Club’s annual Silver and Gold ceremony, honoring previous UMaine letterwinners each fall. She is also present at each M Club board meeting, taking minutes and ready to help anywhere she is needed.
In 2018, Gilmour earned a B.A. in psychology with minors in biology, neuroscience and child development and family relations. She continued with her studies, earning a M.S. in human development in 2020. During her time both as an undergraduate and graduate student, Kristin also worked as a tutor and mentor with the Office of Academic Support Services for Student-Athletes (ACSUP).
She is a resident of Bangor.
