UMaine Alumni of the Lowcountry

UMAL was formed in 2008 as a social organization with the goal of giving back to our alma mater. For the 2023-2024 academic year, UMAL provided $2,000 in scholarship money that was split between two students, A’nala Anderson Hopkins, Indian Land High School, from Fort Mill, SC, a first-year Studio Art major, and Devon Sibley, Fort Mill High School, Fort Mill, SC, a first-year Business Administration major. This $2,000 scholarship results in total UMAL scholarship awards now exceeding $25,000 since the first scholarship in 2011.

Additionally, for the first time this year, UMAL established an endowed scholarship fund with an initial contribution of $2,000. We decided to establish a legacy at UMaine by creating the endowed UMaine Alumni of the Lowcountry Scholarship. We are grateful for a matching gift program made possible by the incredibly generous legacy gift from Bob and Judy Blake, former UMAL Executive Board members. When we reach our pledge of $8,000, we will receive a 25% ($2,000) matching gift thanks to Bob and Judy’s generosity.
