Commemorate Maine Day by sharing your community service with us!
The University of Maine has recommitted to the original intent of Maine Day, as envisioned by President Arthur Hauck in 1935, to be primarily a day of service and giving. We are continually amazed by the many ways that you as alumni carry on that spirit of service in your life, and we’d like to celebrate Maine Day by seeing you in action!
We encourage you to send us a photo of you and/or other Black Bear alumni giving service to your community, and give us a sentence or two about who’s in the photo and the nature of your community service. Do you volunteer for your local food pantry or animal shelter? Participate in a service club? Get involved in a community spring clean-up? Take a picture and show us! We look forward to finding ways to share some of these as we celebrate the UMaine Alumni Association’s 150th anniversary this year, and to carry on the tradition of Maine Day near you!
Maine Day is now a weeklong celebration on campus (this year, it’s during the week of April 28), but you can share any recent community service you or other Black Bear alumni have done. And yes, it’s still fine to end your day of service by filling a stein to dear old Maine!
Here’s what to do:
– Take a photo of you and/or other Black Bear alumni volunteering in your community. (Bonus points if you’re wearing UMaine swag!)
– Email your photo to us at: alumni@maine.edu
– Include a couple of sentences about who is in the photo, and the nature of your community service.
– Keep an eye out for your photo to possibly be shared by the Alumni Association!
